Acoustic propagation in 3-D, rectangular ducts with flexible walls

چکیده
In this article some analytic expressions for acoustic propagation in 3-D ducts of rectangular cross-section and with flexible walls are explored. Consideration is first given to the propagation of sound in an unlined 3-D duct formed by three rigid walls and closed by a thin elastic plate. An exact closed form expression for the fluid-structure coupled waves is presented. The effect of incorporating internal structures, such as a porous lining, into the duct is also discussed. Such configurations are directly relevant to the heating, ventilation and airconditioning industry.

On acoustic propagation in three-dimensional rectangular ducts with flexible walls and porous linings.
The focus of this article is toward the development of hybrid analytic-numerical mode-matching methods for model problems involving three-dimensional ducts of rectangular cross-section and with flexible walls. Such methods require first closed form analytic expressions for the natural fluid-structure coupled waveforms that propagate in each duct section and second the corresponding orthogonalit...
متن کاملLOW FREQUENCY ACOUSTIC TRANSMISSION THROUGH THE WALLS OF RECTANGULAR DUCTS-t
A simple theory is described for the transmission of low frequency sound through the walls of rectangular ducts, particularly those in air conditioning systems. The model is based on a coupled acoustic/structural wave system, and it is assumed that the duct radiates in the same way as a finite-length line source incorporating a single travelling wave. Measurements of wall transmission loss on t...
متن کاملAverage Heat Transfer Coefficient in Rectangular Ducts with Baffle Blockages
An experimental investigation was conducted to study the average and the fully-developed heat (mass) transfer coefficients in a rectangular smooth duct and a duct with repeated-baffle blockages. The focus of attention in this work is the conventional correlation Nu / Nufd 1 + C / ( X / D ) for the average heat transfer coefficient. It was shown that for relatively short ducts, the coefficient C...
متن کاملSound attenuation in dissipative expansion chambers
Recent improvements in fiber properties combined with their broadband acoustic dissipation characteristics make such materials potentially desirable for implementation in silencers. The acoustic modelling of simple silencer geometries, such as circular or rectangular cross-sections, has been established and classified depending on the assumption of locallyor bulk-reacting lining. Morse [1] used...
متن کاملEmploying Internal Flexible Wall as Mass Absorber in Tanks Subjected to Harmonic Excitations
The possibility of employing internal wall as mass absorber in rectangular water storage tanks subjected to harmonic ground motion excitation is investigated in this paper. Internal walls are used in these tanks usually for service performance purposes, which could be used as mass absorber to control seismic demand on tank's exterior walls. Derivation of the response of the coupled system inclu...
